Ministering to the Total Man.
New Gen is an integrated Christian family dedicated to serving God, learning about his Word and sharing the gospel with people of all nations. Our history dates back to 1987 when our Bishop founded New Generation Gospel Ministries in a mostly Muslim town, Kano, in the Northern region of Nigeria.
Today, New Gen is comprised of Twelve Branches, ten branches in Nigeria and two outside, one in London and one in Maryland.
Why are We called New Gen?
The Church is called New because the mandate from God is to do a new thing, realizing that you cannot put new wine in an old wine skin. The Church started with twelve members in the Bishop's seating room in Kano.
The name of the church is derived from Isaiah 43: 19, "…behold I will do a new thing…" 1 Peter 2:9 'A chosen generation.' New Gen is a Pentecostal/Charismatic Church that believes a nd practises the entire counsel of God.
In The Beginning!
New Generation Gospel Ministries is a household name in Kano — a town in the strong Islam north of Nigeria. Founded on the 4th of January 1987, by Bishop Godwin I. Elomobor, New Gen, as the Church is popularly called, has touched millions of lives in Kano, Nigeria and beyond.
A Growth Sprout!
By the end of the year the church had grown to over one thousand members, making it the fastest growing church ever in the history of Kano; considering the fact that it did not break from another Church. New Gen was specially raised up by God to break the fallow ground in Kano for effective propagation of the gospel in Kano. It is difficult to see any church today in Kano, especially Pentecostals, where you will not see Genites in leadership roles.
The Bishop, together with his wife, Dr Anthonia Elomobor, and their children started the Maryland New Gen in their Apartment Living Room in Silver Spring Maryland in 2000.
Soon after the fellowship was moved to a nearby public school hall where the weekly services were held for some time.
Marching Forward into the Future!
By the Grace of God, New Gen was able to acquire the current facility, which we currently occupy since July 2009.
New Gen currently has branches all over Nigeria and in London, U.K. and here in Maryland
