Hormone therapy how does impact your life

HORMONE THERAPY AND YOUR HEALTH

Bioidentical hormone therapy (BHRT) is a type of hormone replacement therapy that uses hormones chemically identical to those produced by the human body. These hormones are often derived from plant sources and are used to treat various conditions, including:

  • Menopause and perimenopause symptoms: Hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, and mood swings.
  • Andropause (low testosterone in men): Symptoms like reduced libido, fatigue, and mood changes.
  • Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).
  • Infertility and sexual dysfunction.
  • Thyroid disorders and adrenal insufficiency12.
  • BHRT (Bio-indentical Hormone Replacement Therapy) can come in various forms, such as pills, creams, gels, sprays, and vaginal inserts2. Some forms are FDA-approved, while others are custom-compounded by pharmacists based on a healthcare provider’s prescription2.

It’s important to discuss with a healthcare provider to determine if BHRT is suitable for you and to understand the potential benefits and risks.

Do you have any specific questions or concerns about BHRT?

MALE HORMONES

Male hormones, primarily known as androgens, play crucial roles in the development and maintenance of male characteristics and reproductive functions. The main male hormones include:

  1. Testosterone: The primary male sex hormone, produced mainly in the testicles. It is responsible for the development of male reproductive tissues, such as the testes and prostate, as well as secondary sexual characteristics like increased muscle and bone mass, and the growth of body hair. Testosterone also plays a role in mood regulation, energy levels, and libido.
  2. Dihydrotestosterone (DHT): A derivative of testosterone, DHT is more potent and plays a significant role in the development of male characteristics during puberty, such as facial hair and deepening of the voice.
  3. Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH): Produced by the pituitary gland, FSH is essential for sperm production (spermatogenesis).
  4. Luteinizing Hormone (LH): Also produced by the pituitary gland, LH stimulates the production of testosterone in the testicles.

These hormones work together to regulate various functions in the male body, including reproductive health, muscle mass, bone density, and overall well-being.

FEMALE HORMONES

Female hormones play crucial roles in regulating various bodily functions, particularly those related to the reproductive system. The main female hormones include:

  1. Estrogen: This is the primary female sex hormone, produced mainly in the ovaries. It is essential for the development of female secondary sexual characteristics, such as breast development and the regulation of the menstrual cycle. Estrogen also affects the brain, cardiovascular system, skin, and bones.
  2. Progesterone: Produced by the ovaries after ovulation, progesterone prepares the lining of the uterus for a fertilized egg and supports pregnancy. It also helps regulate the menstrual cycle.
  3. Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH): Produced by the pituitary gland, FSH stimulates the growth of ovarian follicles, which contain the eggs.
  4. Luteinizing Hormone (LH): Also produced by the pituitary gland, LH triggers ovulation and stimulates the production of progesterone.
  5. Testosterone: Although primarily a male hormone, women also produce small amounts of testosterone in their ovaries and adrenal glands. It plays a role in sexual desire, bone and muscle strength, and overall energy levels.

These hormones work together to regulate the menstrual cycle, support pregnancy, and maintain overall health and well-being.
